Jaya Lakshmi, a 31-year-old mother of a young son, migrated from Tiruvannamalai, Tamil Nadu, to Bangalore in
search of livelihood. Coming from a family of waste pickers, she entered the sector due to limited opportunities, and despite the stigma attached to waste work, she has remained determined to support her family.

Through the E-Rozgar initiative, she has stepped into a leadership role at the electrical waste collection unit, where she is actively involved in trainings, enterprise setup, and managing daily operations. With aspirations to formalize her work, gain recognition in society, and lead her community towards collective ownership of waste enterprises, Jaya Lakshmi is also deeply committed to creating a secure future for her child, free from the vulnerabilities of informal labour.
